About Califa

A calendar is an argument about what matters.

Califa is a searchable database of people, works, and moments — compiled into a calendar you can keep.

The method

Three rules

  1. Dates are honest.

A fact is placed on a day only when the day is documented. Year-only and circa facts live on the year rail. We never invent a date to fill a grid.

  2. Every entry cites a source.

The corpus links each entry to a public reference. The long-term plan is a rights-cleared register with revision pinning, confidence, and a correction log.

  3. The theme is the product.

Califa is not a scheduling app. The value is the world you choose and the company it keeps across a year.

Sources & corrections

Built in the open

The v0 corpus draws on 20 curated themes and 1,161 dated entries, each linked to a public reference. Corrections are welcome. If a date is wrong, the fix is a data change with a source — not a design change.

Califa is a beta. The corpus will grow, the rights register will harden, and community themes will open with license grants and moderation.

Design

Calibre, by 60r

Califa uses Calibre: warm paper, off-black ink, one signal blue, HK Grotesk, a single Bodoni italic flourish, and a 4 px field. Restraint is the point of view.

The rule

If a fact has no day, it does not get a day. It gets a rail.
